No permission for Maimane to visit UJ

DA leader Mmusi Maimane has had to cancel his visit to the University of Johannesburg (UJ) on Tuesday ahead of SRC elections.
"Our representatives at UJ met with management who did not grant permission for the leader to be on campus," his spokesperson Mabine Seabe told News24.
"Such visits go through an eight week process."
On Monday, Seabe said Maimane would be visiting the university to encourage students to vote for the Democratic Alliance Students' Organisation (Daso).
"[Daso] has shown itself to be a capable representative and body for all students at the University of Fort Hare, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and the University of Pretoria," he said in a statement.
Daso had won SRC elections at the three universities.
UJ was expected to hold its SRC elections this week.
Student protests
Seabe said Maimane was also expected to speak about the recent wave of student protests taking place across the country against fee increases.
University of the Witwatersrand, Rhodes University, Stellenbosch University and the University of Cape Town have been protesting.
The University of Pretoria and University of Fort Hare were expected to join the protest.
Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande was expected to hold talks with vice chancellors at higher learning institutions across the country on Tuesday.
